Michael Lang

LMT, MMT, NCPT

Michael’s sessions are a mindful integration of East and West. His science-based foundation in Myoskeletal Alignment Technique improves posture and supports lasting structural change, while his incorporation of Thai and Shiatsu bodywork, along with subtle Reiki, leaves clients with a renewed sense of length, balance, and energetic flow. Beyond the massage table, Michael also offers Qigong, Pilates, and Stick Mobility to reinforce these postural and energetic shifts—helping them become lasting transformations.

Before Michael became a therapist, he was a Broadway dancer, tumbler, and stuntman—living inside movement every day. That life taught him first-hand how powerful (and vulnerable) the body can be. It also gave him a deep respect for recovery, alignment, and the kind of inner balance that goes beyond performance.

In 1994, shortly after moving to Los Angeles, Michael experienced the Northridge earthquake just one week later. That moment of upheaval literally and figuratively shook him awake, inspiring him to begin massage studies at IPSB (Institute of Psycho-Structural Balancing) in Santa Monica. IPSB set the initial foundation for his massage practice by teaching how to embody the grounded yet receptive qualities of Tai Chi while giving a massage.

A few months later, Michael found himself “lost” in North Hollywood, where he stumbled upon the Taoist Institute. There, he began his lifelong study of Qigong—only later discovering that his Sifu was the very teacher who had introduced Tai Chi principles to IPSB. This connection gave him a deeper understanding of what it means to truly follow the flow, a lesson that continues to shape his work and life today.

In 2002, Michael graduated from the world-renowned Swedish Institute (SI) in New York City, earning his massage therapy license, which he now holds in New York, Michigan, Ohio, and North Carolina. He continued his education at SI in Basic Exercise Science and Advanced Personal Training, laying the foundation for an approach that integrates both clinical knowledge and functional movement.

Michael is also a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher (NCPT) and a Stick Mobility Coach, expanding his ability to help clients restore posture, strength, and functional mobility.

The core of Michael’s current practice is Erik Dalton’s Myoskeletal Alignment Technique, for which he recently earned his MMT (Master Myoskeletal Therapist) Diploma. He is also pursuing his Corrective Exercise Specialist certification through NASM, further deepening his ability to address pain, restore function, and improve long-term movement patterns.

Michael’s path has also been deeply shaped by studying traditional Martial Arts and Qigong with numerous Masters and Grandmasters, along with formal training in Eastern Bodywork modalities. He is a certified Reiki Master, and he has spent 30+ years cultivating the subtle yet profound potential of the energy body.

Michael recently moved to North Carolina after his wife accepted a position at the North Carolina School for the Arts. With all of his achievements, he feels his greatest accomplishment is raising his three daughters—Katie, Isabella, and Kiera—together with his beautiful bride, Lisa.
